Electronic data capture is the software system sites use to enter and submit trial data to the sponsor. It hosts the electronic case report forms, runs automatic checks as data is entered, manages queries, and keeps an audit trail of every change. Being comfortable in an EDC system is a practical, transferable skill across employers.
Example
A coordinator logs into the EDC after a visit, enters the vital signs and adverse events, and answers two open queries from the data manager about last month's laboratory results.
