A clinical trial management system is the operational software used to plan and track a trial: sites, contacts, visits, milestones, recruitment numbers, payments, and monitoring activity. It manages how the trial is running rather than the clinical data itself, which lives in the EDC. Most sponsors and CROs run one, and many sites run their own.
