Proof of concept (PoC)

    In Trial design & structure

A proof-of-concept study asks whether a treatment shows the biological effect its developers expect, before committing to large and expensive trials. It is usually small, may use a short-term or surrogate measure, and is designed to inform a go or no-go decision. A positive result is encouraging, not conclusive.
