Estimand

An estimand is a precise statement of exactly what treatment effect a trial is trying to estimate, including the population, the outcome, and how events such as stopping treatment are handled. Introduced by ICH E9(R1), it forces the question "the effect of what, in whom, measured how?" to be answered before the analysis. It reduces ambiguity about what a result actually means.
