A biomarker is a characteristic that can be measured objectively as an indicator of a biological process, a disease state, or a response to treatment. Examples include a blood test result, a genetic variant, or an imaging measurement. Biomarkers are used to select participants, to monitor effect, and sometimes as endpoints.
