Stratification
In Running the trial
Stratification is randomizing separately within groups defined by an important characteristic, such as disease severity, age band, or site. It keeps those characteristics balanced across the arms rather than leaving balance to chance. Stratification factors are pre-specified and are normally also used in the analysis.
