Critical to quality factors are the small number of things in a trial that, if they go wrong, would seriously undermine participant safety or the credibility of the results. Teams identify them up front and concentrate their controls, training, and monitoring there. Examples are eligibility for a safety-critical criterion, the primary endpoint measurement, and the consent process.
