Medical coding in trials is the process of mapping free-text terms reported by sites onto standard dictionary terms. Adverse events and medical history are usually coded to MedDRA, and medicines to a drug dictionary such as WHO Drug. Consistent coding is what makes it possible to count and compare events across a whole program.
